UPDATES: April 20, 2022
BLACK BEAR
Rattlesnake: There is one black bear that has gotten into garbage. There are several other bears that are active in the area. FWP set a trap for a black bear in the Rattlesnake that had caused property damage, but no bears were captured.
Bitterroot: There have been reports of black bears active in the area. Please contain attractants.
Florence: A female black bear with yearlings was seen in the area. This was the first report of a female black bear with young active in the area this year.
Milltown: There are black bears active in the area. There have been reports of bears getting into garbage. Please secure garbage in a bear-resistant manner until the morning of pickup.
GRIZZLY BEAR
Blackfoot/Clearwater: There have been multiple reports of people seeing grizzly bear tracks. No conflicts have been reported.
MOUNTAIN LION
Region-wide: There have been multiple reports of mountain lion tracks in lower elevations.
Florence: A small dog was attacked by a mountain lion. FWP aversive-conditioned the lion away from the area.
April 5, 2022
Region-wide: Bears are waking up across the region. Please carry bear spray and know how to use it. Bring in bird feeders and contain other attractants in a bear-resistant manner. Garbage should be stored in a building or bear-resistant container or enclosure until the morning of pickup or until you can take it to the local refuse site.
BLACK BEAR
Bitterroot and Lower Clark Fork: FWP has received report of bear tracks. Please contain all attractants.
Marshall Mountain area: There is one black bear that has been seen in the area.
Milltown: There is a black bear that has been seen near the residential area. Please bring in bird feeders and keep garbage contained in a bear-resistant manner until the morning of pickup.
Rattlesnake: There are four different black bears currently active in the Rattlesnake. This includes two yearlings and two adults. There was one incident of a black bear getting into garbage. Contain all garbage in a bear-resistant manner until the morning of pickup. Please bring in bird feeders.
GRIZZLY BEAR
Seeley and Ovando: FWP has received reports of grizzly bear tracks in the Seeley Lake and Ovando areas.
MOUNTAIN LION
Region-wide: There have been multiple reports of mountain lion tracks in lower elevations.
Rattlesnake: A mountain lion was reported. A mountain lion killed fawn was also reported. FWP is monitoring the activity.
