January 2022

Region-wide: Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks has been fielding reports of mountain lion activity region-wide. Below are a few examples. This increase in reports is not unusual as lions follow their prey into lower elevations and snow makes seeing tracks a bit easier. If you see a mountain lion please report it to Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks.

Turah: A mountain lion killed a goat. This lion was removed. When installed correctly electric fence can be an effective deterrent for protecting livestock like chickens and goats from predators.

Rattlesnake, Milltown, Bonner: Reports have come in of mountain lions near residential areas. This is not unusual this time of year as the deer move into lower elevations for winter.
